-a scenery of Malacca river mouth facing the straits of Malacca |
After finished the dragon boat competition in Sungai Melaka, I took a rest on the river dam and took a picture of the river mouth. From here, I can see the flagship of a Portuguese ship, Flor de la Mar. Its a bit sad that the state rebuilt an invader ship instead of a local ship, Mendam Berahi which did not lose in term of size and built.

Hope the state will invest in something closer to the heart of its people soon. Throwing a sight on the straits for the first time will make you notice that there are a lot of ship n sight weather passing through the straits or anchoring.

The map above shows how crucial the straits as the main passage between the east and west.
Most important ports in the world located in this straits such as Tuas Port in Singapore and Port Kelang in Malaysia. Since 90% of the world trade goes by the sea, it can be said that whoever control the straits can control the world. Shame that Malaysia did not monopolize the opportunity and keep it open.

-the narrowest part of the straits; the star online |
As seen on the map above, it is possible to built a bridge across the straits to Sumatra since it only about 48.68 km in distance. However, due to busy traffic and agreement with Indonesian government, the idea might be postpone for several more decades.

If you come to Malacca, be sure to visit the Straits Mosque which faces the straits. The scenery is beautiful during twilight. After that, you might want to spend quality moment with your family in nearby homestay for barbecue and enjoying the sound of the waves.
