-pushing the boats into the sea |
I would like to share a little bit of my daily activity while staying in Malacca rowing the dragon boat along the busy straits of Malacca. The history of dragon boat race can be traced in China where the people race in their boat along the rivers. This sport become popular in Malaysia as most of the indigenous people are already synonym with being on a boat and crossing the straits to meet their relatives in Sumatra and vice versa.

-lifting the boat to the jetty |
The boat were decorated with dragon scale and additional dragon head on the bow. We have to lift the heavy boat closer to the water before start paddling. Just by lifting the boat is already exhausting though.
|
-going into the sunset |
We have to wear life jacket for safety purposes and some wear gloves to avoid blistering.
It sure is tiring but the view of the twilight make us forgot all the problems.
|
-bad timing for sea-sick |
Our trainer is a hardcore and 'cruel' while teaching us to sharpen our mental and physical. Despite all the adversaries, we managed to follow the training even though sometimes the wave gave no mercy on us.

-posing with the stern of a ship anchoring |
Sometimes a break is needed to keep our mind intact. Of course it has to be at the stern of the anchoring ship. That would make a better picture without a doubt.
|
-taking a rest in the middle of the sea |
Sometimes when we pass through fishing boats and tug boats, they throw away drinking water and snacks to us. What a bless indeed! When reaching in the middle of nowhere, we used to shout and scream, not like anyone will hear.
|
-during competition |
The competition is tough as we fought against seasoned players and only trained for several weeks. Even so, we managed to give a fight and score a forth place in Malacca Dragonboat Competition last year in 2018.
