How to record your own guitar / bass cover without any expensive equipment
Tools needed:
- Laptop
- USB to Guitar Link (Soundcard)
- Audio Jack
- Guitar/Bass
- Headphone
- Camera (for making video cover)
Software Needed:
- Virtual VST Application (preferably Amplitube / GuitarRig)
- Asio4all driver
- Reaper
- Adobe Premiere (or any other equivalent video editing software)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Install all the necessary app.
Most of the apps listed above are free, except for Adobe Premiere.
Make sure that you install all the drivers required by the App, and run the
apps after installation to make sure that its working properly.
- Plug in your soundcard device to one of your laptop’s USB port
This device acts to convert analog signal that comes from the guitar, into a digital signal so that it can be processed / read on the computer. |
- Open Reaper > File > New Project
- Right Click > Insert Virtual Instrumental on Track > VST > VST Guitar Rig
This will open up the VST app Guitar Rig, which is a virtual guitar amplifier / effect pedals which has almost the same sound as the original models. - Once you opened up Guitar Rig, on the left corner of the screen you will see a preset tab, which contains most of the presets that has been made by the app. You can choose any preset that suits your style of playing. In this tutorial I chose to use the "Bass Rig"
- Next up, on the bottom right corner of your screen, you should see the Asio4all driver icon, press on it and change the audio input and output into "USB2Guitar"
- Press on the Record Arm
- At this point basically you are all set. You only need to press the Record button to start the recording
- You can also add in a backing track or an audio track if you want to play a long to a certain song.
Basically that is how to record your Guitar/Bass with the lowest budget possible. If you have any questions regarding this topic feel free to message me.
Happy Jamming!
