CHE GUEVARA

CHE GUEVARA, by name of ERNESTO GUEVARA DE LA SERNA, was born 14th June 1928, Rosario, Argentina and died in 9th October 1967, La Higuera, Bolivia. He was the theoretician and tactician of GUERRILLA warfare, prominent communist figure in the CUBAN REVOLUTION(1956-59), and guerrilla leader in South America. After this execution by the Bolivian army, he was regarded as a martyred hero by generations of leftists worldwide, and his image became an icon of leftist radicalism and Anti-imperialism.
As a young medical student, Guevara travelled throughout the south america and was radicalized by the poverty, hunger, and disease he witnessed. His burgeoning desire to help overturn what he saw as a capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the united states prompted his involvement in GUATEMALA's social reforms under president JACOBO ARBENZ, whose eventual CIA-ASSISTED overthrow at the behest of the UNITED FRUIT company solidified Guevara's political ideology.
However later Guevara soon rose to prominence among the insurgents, was promoted to second in command and played a pivot role in the victorious two year guerrilla campaign that deposed the Batista regime.Followinf the Cuban Revolution, Guevara performed a number of key roles in the new government.
These included reviewing the appeals and firing squads for those convicted as a war criminals during the Revolutionary tribunals, instituting agrarian land reform as minister of industries, helping spearhead a successful national wide literacy campaign, serving as both national bank president and instructional director of Cuba's armed forces.
Guevara remains as both a reversed and reviled historical figure, polarized in the collective imagination in a multitude of biographies,memories,essays,documentaries,songs and Guevara has evolved into a quintessential icon of various leftist movements.
