Influencing. The One Thing That Keeps the Work Done
INFLUENCING
Lynda.com |
There are many contributing factors in the successfulness of
organizing an event, and one of them is by influencing. Organizing an event is not a job that can be accomplished by a
single person, but it requires a group of people that work together to make the
event happen. Managing a group of people it-self might not be an easy task,
especially when the group consists of many background differences. There is
where the influencer comes in.
What is influencing?

Influencing skills are more than communication; they are more
than negotiation; they are arguably more than persuasion. In a business
setting, having influence is about getting true ‘buy in’ from colleagues,
clients and bosses for a business decision or on the best way forward. It will
involve good communication, it will involve persuasion, it may involve
negotiation – but ultimately getting buy in involves selling your vision for
the future. Your own professional credibility (or, as career coaches like to
call it, your 'personal brand') will be key to this, as you need to inspire
confidence.
Why is it important?

One of the key to a successful event organizing is to
maintain the team’s morale. Sometimes unexpected things may happen, which may
affect the moral of the whole team, which will directly affect the output of
the project, which in every situation must be avoided. But to avoid such thing
might not be easy, since that problems are not in human’s control. So in order
to anticipate this, people with good influencing skill is needed, to make sure
that the morale and the spirit of the team is still high, and can also to help
other functioning members of the team in their tasks or their parts in
organizing the event.
Example of influencing?

There can be many examples of influencing, but I will only focus to those that have more chances of occurring in a group of people with multiple backgrounds.
1.
Keep on motivating the team whenever they feel
that they are demotivated
2.
Show them that everybody is important as a part
of the team
3.
Show positive attitude toward other team members
4.
Take part in work that most people don’t want to
do, in a sense to prove that nothing
cant be done if there is a will and hard work
5.
Try to be the person who dissolves the situation
whenever a problem or argument arises.
